Stocks and Mutual Funds
Appreciated stocks and mutual funds are a great way to maximize your giving because you receive an immediate income tax deduction for the full fair market value of securities you transfer that you’ve held for at least one year. In addition, you pay no capital gains tax on the difference between your cost and the fair market value. Consult with your financial and/or tax advisor to analyze your particular situation and confirm tax benefits.

IRA Charitable Distributions
If you are over 70-1/2 years old, then you may distribute directly from your IRA to Bethany Community Church up to $100,000 and exclude the contributed amount from your gross income for tax purposes. This amount can be counted toward the IRA’s annual required minimum distribution. Consult with your financial and/or tax advisor to analyze your particular situation and confirm tax benefits.

Real Estate
Real estate gifts at the request of the donor may also be accepted, depending on the circumstances. You can maximize your tax savings by giving appreciated real estate to Bethany Community Church before the sale. Estate Planning
You may designate Bethany Community Church to receive all or a portion of your estate after your lifetime. This type of giving may be accomplished through:

Bequests:
You can name Bethany Community Church in your will or revocable living trust as a beneficiary, and your estate will receive an income tax deduction for the value of your bequest. A bequest written in a will or revocable living trust can be made for either a percentage or an amount.

Life Insurance:
You can simply name Bethany Community Church as beneficiary of part or all of your life insurance policy. You can also choose to make Bethany the owner of a life insurance policy that is no longer needed. When Bethany is made owner, you may receive a tax deduction for the amount of premiums you continue paying each year. If the policy is whole life, you may receive an immediate tax deduction for the cash value amount. Consult with your financial and/or tax advisor to analyze your particular situation and confirm tax benefits.

Retirement Accounts:
You can name Bethany Community Church as a beneficiary of your IRA, 401(k), or other qualified retirement plans. Any amounts remaining in your plan, free of income and estate tax, will transfer to Bethany Community Church. Consult with your financial and/or tax advisor to analyze your particular situation and confirm tax benefits.

How do I manage my recurring gift?

Recurring gifts can be managed through your Pushpay account. You can login here.

Is online giving secure?

Yes, all account information you enter is secure. Our payment provider is level 1 PCI compliant and meets the highest standards of security set by the Payment Card Industry. Once a transaction has been submitted, only the last four digits of your account number are retained; at no point is your full account information visible again.

Are there any hidden charges or fees?

No, not for you. But there are charges for the church. The church pays a percentage fee per transaction for credit and debit cards. Bank account donation (ACH) cost the church less, allowing your gift to have the greatest impact. With either gift though, the dollar amount that you give will be recognized as your donation.

Can I designate my gift to a specific department or ministry?

All of Bethany’s departments and ministries are supported by the general fund. Every dollar given to our general fund is used to support the overall mission of the church.

Where does the money I give to Bethany go?

When is the contribution charged to my checking account or debit card?

Transactions usually take two to three business days, so contributions scheduled on Friday through Sunday may not show up on your account until early the following week.

Can I give via credit card?

Yes, however, the church leadership wants to remind donors that giving to the church should be done thoughtfully. Please note that bank fees associated with credit cards are higher than other methods (debit cards or ACH), which reduces the amount received by the church. Bethany encourages givers who struggle to manage credit card debt to offer their tithes and offerings by other means.
