The home is located in Maple Valley by Lake Wilderness in a neighborhood that includes 46 homes and no through streets, so it is very quiet and private and one of the reasons we love it.
Drive times without traffic are 30 mins to Georgetown and SoDo, 35 mins to Downtown Seattle, 30 mins to Bellevue, 30 mins to Tacoma, 45 mins to Snoqualmie Pass, 1 hour 10 mins to Crystal Mountain, and 2 hours to Mt Rainier’s Paradise parking lot.
We are Tyler and Kylie! We will be living on the upstairs level of the house and own the house. We have rented rooms in our previous home and have had great experiences.
We are in our late 30’s. Tyler is a Construction Project Manager in commercial HVAC and plumbing. Kylie is an elementary school teacher. We have been attending Bethany Community Church for 14 years, first at Green Lake and now at West Seattle. We both enjoy the outdoors, skiing, backpacking, mountaineering, and traveling. We enjoy spending time with friends and family. Kylie loves cooking and sharing meals and Tyler is frequently working on home improvements. We both strive to be eco-friendly.
We have two very friendly Chocolate Labs, Woodrow and Theodore, who are brothers that are almost 5 years old. We still call them puppies and they still have an amazing amount of energy. They love everyone and are always excited to greet you and say hello. In their excitement they do still struggle to resist jumping up to say hello, so that is important to know. If you are firm with them they will listen, and turning your back to them until they calm down also helps. Most people find they are a bonus to have around and come home to their enthusiastic welcome greetings! They even have the ability to win over non-dog people. : )
Although our dogs will not have access to your private living space, we are looking for an individual who is excited to have our pups around and would want to give them attention in the backyard.
The property is 0.35 acres, flat, and includes original forest still intact in the backyard. A distance from the house, there is a 400 SF deck with large fire pit. The property backs up to the Lake Wilderness Arboretum, 42-acres of protected land maintained by a non-profit. Lake Wilderness is a 10 minute (0.4 miles) walk from the backyard.
Lake Wilderness Park includes a playground, picnic tables and bbqs, picnic shelters and picnic sites for rental, a dock, swimming beach, tennis courts, pickle ball courts, softball field, large grassy areas, and boat launch. (Gas engines are not allowed on the lake.) During the summer there are free concerts and movies shown in the park. All within walking distance from the backyard.
Also right out the backyard is the Green to Cedar River Trail, a 3.5 mile trail connection between the Cedar River Trail, Lake Wilderness, and Maple Valley. There are plans for this trail to be extended to 11 miles to the south to Flaming Geyser State Park on the Green River.
The Cedar River Trail is 17.3 miles and provides connections to other trails and access to other wilderness areas.
Just a few hundred feet from the backyard is a small community trail network with low use (compared to the main trail) so we are able to let the dogs off leash there and they (and we) love being right by this wilderness area.
There is also a Frisbee Golf Course accessible from the backyard, with one hole visible as you leave the yard. We have discs that you are welcome to use.
Essentially our backyard is connected to a 42-acre shared backyard with lake, gardens, frisbee golf course, park amenities, and more trail access than we may ever use.
We are looking for an individual who would enjoy the location and make use of the natural area accessible from the backyard.
The studio apartment space is on the lower level of a two-story split level home built in 1986. We are the second owners of the home and it was very well cared for by the first owners.
You will have a covered parking space under a car port on the side of the house adjacent to the garage.
The studio has a sliding glass door that opens to the backyard. There is a small patio immediately outside the door that will be for your use only.
If you are interested, please let us know about you and why you think this could be a good fit!
We would like to share photos and tell you more about the private and shared spaces. And please let us know what questions you have for us. Thank you!
Although this rental situation is a large private space on the lower floor, the dynamics with a housemate/renter are still important to us. We are looking for an individual that is community minded and that is looking for a place to call home. We are interested in knowing those around us, desire to cross paths and open to sharing time together in the backyard, and occasionally having a meal together when schedules allow. Additionally, an ideal housemate/renter is communicative, friendly, self-aware, respectful, honest, kind and open.
We are looking forward to hearing from you!
