Discussion Questions
Before questions, attempt to give the group a bit of a summary of the main points of the sermon and then choose a few questions that fit your group’s needs and style. We don’t intend for you to use all of these. Three to five questions may be a good number.
- Begin by reading Galatians 5:22-23, John 15:8-11, John 2:1-11 aloud, taking turns reading the passages.
- Pray over the group before beginning discussion.
- Icebreaker: What is the most memorable thing you’ve ever experienced or seen at a wedding?
- What is joy to you?
- What threatens to steal your joy?
- In what ways is your joy an act of resistance against the brokenness of the world around you?
- Why do you think Jesus chose this as His first miracle? What does this say about His character and the work He came to Earth to do?
- What is the “wine level” (joy and zest for life) in your life right now?
- Pastor Kendy explained that in telling Jesus that they were out of wine, she was showing that we can trust Jesus. Is there an area of your life that steals your joy where you need to trust in Jesus more?
- Pastor Kendy shared that miracles of Jesus always restore fallen creation and that the prayer of Jesus is to work through us. We live in a city where fallen creation is everywhere. What is one step you can take to be a part of God’s redemption of brokenness here in Seattle?
- Our power and ability to do God’s work comes from Him. What do you think you need from the Lord to be able to do this work?
