Parables

Luke 7:36-50

Jonathan Nolasco, Associate Director of Missions and Outreach

Great Forgiveness, Great Love

All of us struggle with blindness in one way or another. Our Scripture today challenges us to recognize and confess the ways we have struggled to see ourselves, each other, and God. But the good news of this story is that Jesus came to rescue us from our blindness so we can see and receive His great forgiveness and be free to live with great love.

II. Seeing Simon

III. Seeing the Woman

IV. Seeing Jesus

Discussion Questions

Before questions, attempt to give the group a bit of a summary of the main points of the sermon and then choose a few questions that fit your group’s needs and style. We don’t intend for you to use all of these. Three to five questions may be a good number.

Begin by reading Luke 7:36-50 aloud, taking turns reading the passages.

Pray over the group before beginning discussion.

  1. Why do you think our ability to see–others, ourselves, and Jesus–matter so much to God?
  2. What stands out to you about the way Jesus makes the connection between forgiveness and love?
  3. How might we as modern readers have a blindness that keeps us from seeing the woman, and subsequently from seeing Jesus?
  4. With "seeing" in mind, what do you see as the significance of titling the story differently, from "Jesus and the Sinful Woman" to "Jesus and the Forgiven Woman"?
  5. What might a faithful response to Jesus' invitation to see others, receive forgiveness, and love greatly look like for you?
