Discussion Questions
Before questions, attempt to give the group a bit of a summary of the main points of the sermon and then choose a few questions that fit your group’s needs and style. We don’t intend for you to use all of these. Three to five questions may be a good number.
- Begin by reading James 5:7-11 aloud, taking turns reading the passages.
- Pray over the group before beginning discussion.
- Be Patient:
- Richard said that it's often hard to be patient with ourselves, because we see our lives as a snapshot instead of a movie. If your life was a snapshot, what moment would you NOT want to have captured?
- How are people being blessed through what God has called you to do?
- What does embracing quiet consistency look like?
- Where have you seeds sown of Christ’s life in the soil of our world and evidence that God can make it grow?
- Is there an area in which you feel God might be calling you, but you've been hesitant to follow Him because you don't know how? (LEADER NOTE: The BCC staff would love to help you walk your group member through this)
- Be plain:
- Where might your language cause mistrust amongst people with whom you are in relationship?
- Be prayerful:
- Pastor Richard reminds us to pray when you’re rejoicing, share what is one reason to rejoice that you’ve recently experienced; name/share a reason within our greater community as well.
- Anne Lamott says that prayers can be put into three categories—help, thanks, and wow.
- What is something that you could use the Lord's help with this week?
- What are you thankful for this week?
- What is making you say wow about God this week?
- Practice: Consider journaling through these three categories this week and notice what God does in your heart through the practice. Share at next week's group!
