The 2020 Advent Devotional was created in tandem with a special Advent Box containing materials to complete each activity/practice at the beginning of the week. However, if you did not receive a box, most of the activities can be recreated with items from around your house or neighborhood! We look forward to celebrating this season of hope and expectation with you—share your photos on social media and tag us along the way @bethanygreenlake!

Patience

Psalm 103:8-10; Micah 7:18,19
Richard Dahlstrom, Senior Pastor, www.spiritsoulbody.org

We’re in the midst of reengaging in our world on a face to face basis - and the rage has been boiling… so we very much need to consider what God has to say about patience -- we’ll do this by looking at a definition, and then two examples, of patience.

  • I. Definition
  • II. Patience Illustrated: MOSES
  • III. Perfect Patience Illustrated: JESUS

Discussion Questions

Before questions, attempt to give the group a bit of a summary of the main points of the sermon and then choose a few questions that fit your group’s needs and style. We don’t intend for you to use all of these. Three to five questions may be a good number.

  • Begin by reading Psalm 103:8-10; Micah 7:18,19 aloud, taking turns reading the passages.
  • Pray over the group before beginning discussion.
  • As you re-engage with the world, where are you finding that you are not demonstrating patience, or worse, that you are demonstrating rage?
  • Do you ever find yourself “working” towards patience, rather than allowing yourself to connect to God to increase your patience?
  • Pastor Richard said that one of the reasons that we find ourselves being impatient is because we get annoyed. Where do you find that differences cause you to have annoyance with people and therefore lack patience?
  • What do you think motivated Moses to continue to lead the Israelites long after many would have given up?
  • What motivates you that empowers you to be patient with other people?
  • Where in your life do you find that God is showing you His glory to fortify you in patience?
  • How does it feel to see the examples of where Jesus had patience with His own disciples in their failures?
  • What is one thing you can do this week to let go of working for patience and to simply plug into God and trust His work in your life?
