Saturation Prayer - Christ Beneath Me - I'm Rooted

Ephesians 3:14-19
Richard Dahlstrom, Senior Pastor, www.spiritsoulbody.org

In a world where many jettison faith, either intentionally or through neglect, it’s imperative to note that our calling, and ultimately our joy, is to press on until the end. In order to continue growing in Christ, we need three elements:

I. We must be strengthened through the Spirit

II. We must have Christ as our home page

III. We must be rooted and grounded in love

Discussion Questions

Before questions, attempt to give the group a bit of a summary of the main points of the sermon and then choose a few questions that fit your group’s needs and style. We don’t intend for you to use all of these. Three to five questions may be a good number.

  • Begin by reading Ephesians 3:14-19 aloud, taking turns reading the passages.
  • Pray over the group before beginning discussion.
  • Pastor Richard listed out some identity truths that Paul lists for the church in Ephesus—They’re blessed with every spiritual blessing; they’re chosen, adopted, redeemed, invited to live with the confidence that comes with the basis of grace, and recipients of God’s revelation regarding the end of the story.
  • Which of these feels most true for you right now?
  • Which of these are you most struggling to believe about yourself?
  • Paul prayed the following prayer over the Ephesians. Does anyone in your group need to have this prayer prayed over them?
  • Take a few moments to pray over anyone who asks (or everyone in the group).
  • For this reason I bow my knees before the Father, from whom every family in heaven and on earth is named, that according to the riches of his glory he may grant you to be strengthened with power through his Spirit in your inner being, so that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith—that you, being rooted and grounded in love, may have strength to comprehend with all the saints what is the breadth and length and height and depth, and to know the love of Christ that surpasses knowledge, that you may be filled with all the fullness of God.
  • What lies do you find yourself believing about yourself that go contrary to who God says you are?
  • What spiritual practices have you been implementing that you are finding are strengthening your spirit?
  • What practices have you been wanting to implement, but have failed to do so?
  • How can your group help you?
  • Pastor Richard told us that the word anxiety comes from a Greek word meaning “split.” What do you find yourself being split between? (i.e. Between past and future instead of the present, between shame and pride instead of quiet humility)
  • Are you more of a Mary or a Martha?
  • How can you choose to lay down your tasks and sit at the feet of Jesus?
  • What does it practically look like in our lives when we are rooted and grounded in love?
  • Pastor Richard said that it’s in our instincts to run away from God, not towards Him. What do you find keeps you from running towards God?
  • Close by saying the condensed prayer together as a group:
  • Christ above me: I receive
  • Christ beneath me: I am rooted
  • Christ around me: I’m connected
  • Christ within me: I’m called
