The 2020 Advent Devotional was created in tandem with a special Advent Box containing materials to complete each activity/practice at the beginning of the week. However, if you did not receive a box, most of the activities can be recreated with items from around your house or neighborhood! We look forward to celebrating this season of hope and expectation with you—share your photos on social media and tag us along the way @bethanygreenlake!

Saturation Prayer - Christ Within Me—I'm Called

Romans 12:3–8
Richard Dahlstrom, Senior Pastor, www.spiritsoulbody.org

None of us are created to live “unto ourselves.” We discover and live into that by embracing three realities:

I. The basis for our calling
II. The uniqueness of our calling
FAQs:
– How do you find your unique gifts and calling?
– Once you know, what’s next?
III. The power of our calling

Discussion Questions
Before questions, attempt to give the group a bit of a summary of the main points of the sermon and then choose a few questions that fit your group’s needs and style. We don’t intend for you to use all of these.  Three to five questions may be a good number.

Begin by reading Romans 12:3–8 aloud, taking turns reading the passages.

Pray over the group before beginning discussion.

Have you found that the time of COVID-19 has caused you to reassess your career or other aspects of your life via “turnover shock?”

Pastor Richard said that what we’re really looking for is alignment (i.e. Between how we use our time and our values; Between our unique strengths and our work environment). Do you find yourself experiencing misalignment in your life?

Pastor Richard said that contemplative practices rooted in Christ should draw us into service to others, rather than into ourselves. What contemplative practices have you used that have drawn you into service to others?

We need a rhythm of withdrawal and engagement in order to live out our calling. How have you found this balance in your own life?

Do you ever struggle to embrace the context in which God has placed you?

We are called to be stewards and reconcilers. In what ways are you living out these callings in your life?
If you’re not living as a steward and reconciler, how can you consider adding in a practice of these callings?

Pastor Richard said that one way to find your unique gifts and calling is to say “yes” to a lot of different things. Where in your life might God be calling you to say “yes” to something unexpected?

Do you find yourself more likely to lean into shame from failure or pride from success?

Have you been saying the St Patrick prayer on your own during the sermon series? What impact has it had on you?

Close by saying the condensed prayer together as a group:

Christ above me:     I receive
Christ beneath me:     I am rooted
Christ around me:     I’m connected
Christ within me:     I’m called
