The 2020 Advent Devotional was created in tandem with a special Advent Box containing materials to complete each activity/practice at the beginning of the week. However, if you did not receive a box, most of the activities can be recreated with items from around your house or neighborhood! We look forward to celebrating this season of hope and expectation with you—share your photos on social media and tag us along the way @bethanygreenlake!

1. Read Hebrews 10:19-22. What are the two things that allow us to enter into communal worship? (See the two “since” clauses in verses 19 and 21)

2. The author of Hebrews gives two reasons—see this since classes in verses 19 and 21—for his exhortation to us to do three things (see the three let us clauses in the verses 22 through 24). What are the three things the author exhorts us to do?
3. How do the two “since” clauses serve as reasons or grounds for doing what is stated in the three “let us” clauses? How are they connected?
4. What brings you to church on Sundays? Why do you go?
5. Do you feel like you belong at church?
6. Whether you do or do not, is there a way you can act as a host at church?
7. Eric mentioned in his sermon that sometimes we can imagine being Christians as similar to being independent contractors, in other words, engaged with God but not with others. Does this resonate with you? Are you tempted to be a Christian in this week? Have you encountered others that live their faith in this way?
8. What is problematic about an independent contractor faith?
9. Gathering invites us to awe in two different ways. What are they?
10. What do you think God is doing at Bethany on Sunday mornings?
11. How are you being lead to respond to what God is doing at Bethany?
