The Invitation to Wholeness: On Becoming Unshakeable Trees

Ephesians 3:14-19

Richard Dahlstrom, Senior Teaching Pastor, www.spiritsoulbody.org

In order to stand, know peace, have courage, see clearly, and bear fruit in these days, we need to have a rock solid, unshakeable identity in Christ. This is what we consider today by looking at three elements related to identity:

I. The end and the why: filled up to all the fullness of God

II. The means: rooted and grounded in love

III. The mystery: a knowledge of the love that surpasses knowledge

Discussion Questions

Before questions, attempt to give the group a bit of a summary of the main points of the sermon and then choose a few questions that fit your group’s needs and style. We don’t intend for you to use all of these. Three to five questions may be a good number.

Begin by reading Ephesians 3:14-19 aloud, taking turns reading the passage.

Pray over the group before beginning discussion.

  1. This week's opening illustration emphasized the importance of healthy roots. Where do you see the truth of this played out around you, it can be based in creation, relationships, technology?
  2. What is "the fullness of God"? Use what you heard from the sermon but also just what you know from your own time/walk as a Christian.
    1. What parts, if any, of "the fullness of God" are a mystery to you?
    2. In what ways do you rely on or lean into "the fullness of God"?
  3. Richard described being rooted in the fullness of God as: receptive, deep, & invisible work:
    1. How did you hear him explain each of these aspects?
    2. In what ways would you want to grow in receptivity, depth, & interaction with invisible work?
  4. Meditation is a meaningful practice that Richard mentioned as helping him stay rooted. What's your initial response re: meditation? Is it a practice that you've done? Found helpful? Would want to try?
  5. Here is a list of Identity Truths (churchbcc.org/identity): which ones do you gravitate toward & why?
  6. If you feel comfortable, share which ones you'd like to lean into this week.
  7. Weekly question: What do you need from God today? Write "I am ______" and fill in a truth of your identity in Christ.
