The 2020 Advent Devotional was created in tandem with a special Advent Box containing materials to complete each activity/practice at the beginning of the week. However, if you did not receive a box, most of the activities can be recreated with items from around your house or neighborhood! We look forward to celebrating this season of hope and expectation with you—share your photos on social media and tag us along the way @bethanygreenlake!

This Jesus
Acts 2:22-28, 23-33, 36

Scott Sund, Bethany North Lead Pastor

Jesus doesn’t want to just meet you, He longs to fill you and transform you. Peter’s sermon lays out 3 things for us to seek so encounter becomes transformation.

Christ Focused: We need a relentless pursuit of Jesus

Biblical Basis: We rely on a knowledge of Biblical truth

Humble Hunger: We ask for Spirit to fill us in order to transform us.

Discussion Questions
Before questions, attempt to give the group a bit of a summary of the main points of the sermon and then choose a few questions that fit your group’s needs and style. We don’t intend for you to use all of these. Three to five questions may be a good number.

Share with the group, when is the most scared you have ever been?

Prayerfully read Hebrews 11:1 aloud. Discuss these questions asked of us all this week:

How will your faith flourish during COVID-19?

How can you, in faith, believe Christ is working when you can’t see what’s next?

What does a Christ-concentration or craving look like?

How would you answer Scott’s question of “have we made faith something different?”

What would it look like in your own life to change from “gallery view” to “speaker view” when it comes to your own discipleship?

Review the Rule of Life handout here, is there a spiritual practice that you could commit to engaging in this week as you seek to see focus on Christ?

We heard this week, “Who you fixate on will lead you”. What have you been fixating on in the past week, in this past season?

Our life is not meant to just be about “me and Jesus” but rather life is meant to be costly; more than about our individual comfort as we are moved towards transformation. What is being transformed in your life that is impacting others?

Pastor Scott reminds us that the Father never leaves, though we may not feel or see him. Have you experienced a time or season in your life when you weren’t able to “see” Him?

One role of community is to help see for one another as we experience our own moments of obscured vision; is there a way in which others have been able to see for you in a way that when you look back you see the greater story and Christ’s presence?
