Discussion Questions
Before questions, attempt to give the group a bit of a summary of the main points of the sermon and then choose a few questions that fit your group’s needs and style. We don’t intend for you to use all of these. Three to five questions may be a good number.
- Begin by reading Psalm 103:8-10; Micah 7:18,19 aloud, taking turns reading the passages.
- Pray over the group before beginning discussion.
- Icebreaker: Pastor Richard shared a number of heartwarming stories. What’s a heartwarming story that has made you believe in kindness?
- How has God shown kindness to you?
- Pastor Richard listed out a number of situations in which Jesus’ kindness was countercultural at the time and offensive to religious leaders.
- In what areas do you think kindness would be countercultural today?
- In what ways would kindness be offensive to the religious leaders of today?
- Pastor Richard said that we have an identity more secure than our fragile ego—we are complete in Christ, blessed with every spiritual blessing, loved, called, and gifted. Do you ever find yourself believing your ego more than your identity in Christ? Where are you finding your affirmation?
- In Matthew 9:36, Jesus saw the crowds and “had compassion on them because they were like sheep without a shepherd.” Are there groups of people for whom you need to have more compassion, seeing that they are like sheep without a shepherd?
