Embracing Mystery: The Story of Job: Where is Wisdom?
Job 28:12-28
Abby Odio, Pastor of Teaching and Formation, abbyo@churchbcc.org
Job poses a question core to the human experience: Where is wisdom found? Job 28 offers profound insight into how we answer that question.
I. Wisdom is found in the fight
II. Wisdom is found in the finite
III. Wisdom is found in the fear

Discussion Questions
Before questions, attempt to give the group a bit of a summary of the main points of the sermon and then choose a few questions that fit your group’s needs and style. We don’t intend for you to use all of these. Three to five questions may be a good number.
Begin by reading Job 28:12-28 aloud, taking turns reading the passages.
Pray over the group before beginning discussion.
Icebreaker: Pastor Abby’s husband once told her, “if you can make it up the hill - you can do anything on this bike.” What’s your “if you can do this, you can do anything” story?
Prior to listening to this sermon, how did you answer the question, “Where is wisdom?”
Share a time when you found wisdom by going through suffering?
Is there an experience you’re navigating right now, by choosing to not navigate it? Is there a grief you haven’t acknowledged?
Is there a limitation that God has given you that serves as a reminder that He is God and you are not or an invitation to enter a posture of worship?
What unseen aspect of your situation are you struggling to trust God for?
In Job, God is known as both Adonai (a word that names the holy and the impersonal distance between two beings; a distance that evokes awe and fear) and Yahweh (one who is personal, caring, in our midst, working for our good, known by name). In your current situation, in what ways are you seeing God as Adonai and in what ways are you seeing Him as Yahweh?
In what ways has your suffering allowed you to better care for others?
