The 2020 Advent Devotional was created in tandem with a special Advent Box containing materials to complete each activity/practice at the beginning of the week. However, if you did not receive a box, most of the activities can be recreated with items from around your house or neighborhood! We look forward to celebrating this season of hope and expectation with you—share your photos on social media and tag us along the way @bethanygreenlake!

1. Based on God’s perspective and his Kingdom values, what is God’s vision for normal?

2. Echoing the man on Friday Harbor’s question, if God is about this great banquet, what are you doing to address the areas of dissonance in our community; race relations, chronic hunger in the community, homelessness?

3. How do you let God’s will rule your life? In relationships, in the workplace, in food; in what ways is it all framed by God?

4. What is your path of subjection today?

5. The child who refuses to be shaped by the wisdom of parents ends poorly; when have you been that child?

6. Have you experienced a father’s provocation to anger? How does that shape your view of fatherhood?

7. How have you as an adult (whether as a parent or not), learned from a child recently? Share that experience.

8. What does it look like in your life to be willing to invest with compassion, not playing the authority?

9. How do you embody the third way? When do you offer hospitality, service, generosity, obedience, love, and patience, to the other AS IF HE WERE CHRIST?

10. If it had been directed at you, how would you respond to Darren’s question: ‘If nobody has ever loved you, do you think you could still be a good father?’

11. What is the will of the Lord? Where can you be strong enough to serve, tall enough to kneel, full enough to empty yourself because you’ve been filled by Christ?
