The 2020 Advent Devotional was created in tandem with a special Advent Box containing materials to complete each activity/practice at the beginning of the week. However, if you did not receive a box, most of the activities can be recreated with items from around your house or neighborhood! We look forward to celebrating this season of hope and expectation with you—share your photos on social media and tag us along the way @bethanygreenlake!

Read Romans 13:8-14

1. What does this passage of Romans say is our fundamental calling as Christians?

2. Rephrase Abby’s definition of Agape Love?

3. Abby quoted Dallas Willard, “Grace is not opposed to effort, it is opposed to earning”. How does this quote intertwine with our understanding of how to walk toward growing in love?

4. Abby emphatically communicates that as we walk in faith with Christ, agape love will grow in us. What are some examples of this that you’ve seen in others who over time have grown in this kind of love?

5. What did you think about when Abby challenged us with the question of “When you said yes to Christ, have you become a more loving person?”

6. What are some ways that you’d want to will the good of another? (Friends, family, work situation, etc.) What would that look like?

7. To walk towards agape love requires both an awareness about what’s blocking our growth in this kind of love while also being open to receiving from the Lord the abundant love he’s offering.

Which of these is easier for you right now- awareness of your growing edges or receiving from Christ? Which is harder for you?

8. Is there a way the group can be praying for you as you respond to this message?
