The 2020 Advent Devotional was created in tandem with a special Advent Box containing materials to complete each activity/practice at the beginning of the week. However, if you did not receive a box, most of the activities can be recreated with items from around your house or neighborhood! We look forward to celebrating this season of hope and expectation with you—share your photos on social media and tag us along the way @bethanygreenlake!

Easter Sunday
Psalm 27:1-14

Richard Dahlstrom, Senior Pastor

With so much right now out of our control we are examining this week how, in the midst of such upheaval and uncertainty, can we live authentically. In light of Easter Sunday, how might we move beyond this period of loss towards experiencing Christ’s resurrection life?
Text “daily” to 646-00 to receive daily prayers from the BCC Global monastery.
Text “praying” to 646-00, we would be honored to pray for you.

Discussion Questions
Before questions, attempt to give the group a bit of a summary of the main points of the sermon and then choose a few questions that fit your group’s needs and style. We don’t intend for you to use all of these. Three to five questions may be a good number.

What is one favorite Easter tradition that you have that you may or may not be practicing this year?

Read Psalm 27:1-14 with the context of knowing it was written by David during a time of major disruption in his life.

Pastor Richard affirms that "without light, there is no life”. How can tapping into the source of light that is Christ lead to being a person of hope?

What specific attitudes and actions might we practice to be so?

David demonstrates both confidence and communion with God and in verse 4 states "One thing I have asked from the Lord…”.

How might we live more like David in his response to ask “to behold the beauty of the Lord”?

What is the one thing you want today? The one thing you want God to do for you today?

We heard examples from a local nurse and community meal volunteer in ways they continue to see God’s beauty amidst hardship.

In what ways have you seen God and the beauty of the Lord this past week?

David calls out to God when all he knew was taken. What has been taken away from you this last week? (ex. the ability to hug your family, financial stability, safety, plans for the summer, etc.)

Have there been other moments in your life when you have experienced that knowing that God is with you was enough for the circumstances you were in?

Lament is an action we are called to as followers of Christ, though counter to our culture. In what ways have you found space to lament and call out to God in this time?

David demonstrates a faith in a resurrection future and like Mary at the tomb we can ask ourselves, are we seeking life in the land of the living or in a land that will not last?

What would it look like to overcome fear of loss, fear of the other, fear of death within your own circumstances?

You are invited to pour your heart out to Christ and know his beauty. Consider taking a moment of silence as a group to consider this and listen to the Holy Spirit. Close with prayer over the group.
