Shonnie Scott
West Seattle Campus Pastor
How long have you been working at Bethany, and what is it that you do here?
I started attending Bethany in August 2008. In November 2009 I was asked to lead the development of the West Seattle campus. I’ve have been doing that ever since and was officially licensed as West Seattle Campus Pastor in March 2011.
What relevant education or work experience has prepared you for your position?
I’ve been in vocational ministry since 1986; Bethany being the seventh church I have served. I have an M.A. in Biblical Studies and Theology from Fuller Theological Seminary (1986) and Doctor of Ministry from George Fox Evangelical Seminary (2010). But that’s all just backdrop for the real preparation – which has come from stepping out of my comfort zone into new contexts, again and again – and discovering what the Holy Spirit will do through me, when “I” get out of the way!
What community activities are you involved in outside of BCC?
I serve on the board of Mustard Seed Associates, a small Christian organization based in Seattle, whose mission is to inspire Christ-followers to be a difference and make a difference for God’s Kingdom, one mustard seed at a time. I am also a ministry mentor for M. Div. students at Fuller Northwest.
Tell us about your other hobbies, and about your family.
I’m married to John, who is a professor of pharmacology at UW and directs a research lab. We have a daughter Catriona, who is a computer engineering major at UW and a son Blair, who will be attending NYU/Tisch School of the Arts/Film & TV, fall 2011. We also have a gi-normous Akita, Fuji, who loves to go on walks. For recreation, I enjoy cooking, running (to counter balance the cooking!), a little gardening, and impromptu gatherings of friends in our home.
