Pastoral Residencies at Bethany

As a multi-location, non-denominational church, our mission is to invite people to God, community, and wholeness, and our Pastoral Residency program is geared towards that mission. We believe the church has a call to invest in the next generation of pastoral leaders as a contributing effort to build future, healthy churches. We hope that employing pastors early on in his/her career in residency positions will give him/her the opportunity to form healthy life patterns of life and ministry while doing important pastoral work in the context of a local church with the resources of experienced pastors and staff members. Pastoral Residents will be mentored and equipped as they develop the ability and skills necessary to be a healthy pastor within the context of the local church. Similiar to a medical residency at a teaching hospital, Pastoral Residents hold a unique position in the church, being both a pastor as well as a pastor-in-training, assuming responsibilities from both rolls while developing individual gifts and unique callings.

Internships at Bethany 

Each intern will serve Bethany Community Church as a whole and share many common experiences while individually have varying responsibilities depending on the area of ministry which he or she is serving. 

While the day-to-day of the intern experience will look different for each individual, there are also collective experiences that the interns share. These include participating in the staff’s weekly theology meeting in which issues relevant to Bethany are discussed at the theological level. Also, the intern team meets weekly to discuss their ministry experiences and to reflect on the nature of God’s call to serve in vocational ministry. Additionally, all interns meet one-on-one with their ministry lead, attend intern retreats, and  can expect to be given responsibilities in five areas that Bethany has deemed critical to discerning gifts and call—spiritual formation, leadership development, teaching, administration, and relational ministry.

Part Time Internships

The part-time internship is a twelve-to twenty-hour per week volunteer position that is intended to provide individuals with opportunities to explore their gifts within a church setting. Part-time interns are undergrad students, grad students, and people working in the marketplace while serving within the church.

Each intern will gain experience in five key areas of vocational ministry—administration, teaching, leadership development, relational ministry, and spiritual formation. Depending on an intern’s ministry area, the percentages of these responsibilities will differ. 


Full-Time Internships

These are full-time paid positions, intended to help individuals discern a potential call to vocational ministry as they explore their gifts in a supportive church environment. Interns will be given opportunities to use their gifts in ministry while operating as members of the staff. We offer full-time internship positions that allow our interns to serve Bethany as a whole, with a focus on a particular ministry designated to each intern based upon her/his application.
